Marin Summer Theater is happy to announce that after five years of waiting, we will present LES MISÉRABLES as part of the 2013 Season! LES MIS has been the most requested show by our audience and company members.
With book by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, LES MIS may be the most popular musical in the world. Every year since our founding we have requested permission to produce LES MISÉRABLES, but until now only "School Edition Licensing" has been available: "School Edition Licensing" means that one can only include actors up to 18-years-old in the production. This is not something we could accept because one of the founding priniciples of MST is to include both college and high school age performers in our company. So we waited. And now the wait is over.
Our license to produce LES MIS allows us to present the entire show with the full company. To the best of our knowledge, Marin Summer Theater will be the first "non-school" production of LES MIS in the North Bay.
Based on the Victor Hugo masterwork, LES MISÉRABLES is epic and uplifting. It packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. LES MISÉRABLES is a powerful affirmation of the human spirit, and a popular masterpiece. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from nineteen years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.
